Key Benefits
high density and lightweight
Its density is 55% higher than lead, lighter in weight for the same volume, higher shielding efficiency, and without the toxicity risk of lead, making it suitable for counterweighting in confined spaces.
01
Outstanding thermal stability
Extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion, ensuring dimensional stability in high-temperature environments. High thermal conductivity, suitable for precision instruments that require rapid heat dissipation.
02
Good mechanical properties
It has high tensile strength, fatigue resistance, and impact resistance, making it suitable for dynamic load scenarios. Moreover, its elongation is significantly better than pure tungsten, resulting in a lower risk of cracking during processing.
03
Technological and cost advantages
With a raw material cost of less than 95 WNiFe, it can be directly machined, and its weldability is superior to that of alloys with higher tungsten content. It also has a longer service life and greater wear resistance compared to lead-based materials.

ASTM B777: An international standard for tungsten-based alloys. Class 2 specifies a tungsten content of 92.5% and a density range of 17.15–17.85 g/cm³. It is suitable for industrial applications such as radiation shielding and counterweights, featuring a hardness of ≤33 HRC and a tensile strength of ≥758 MPa, thereby balancing both strength and ductility.
AMS-T-21014 Class 2: An aerospace-grade standard for tungsten-nickel-iron alloys. Class 2 specifies a composition of 92.5% tungsten, 5.25% nickel, and 2.25% iron, with a density of 17.50 ± 0.15 g/cm³. It features a hardness of 25–29 HRC and a tensile strength of 900–1100 MPa. This standard is specifically designated for high-reliability aerospace components and requires strict process certification.
Our products are guaranteed to comply with either of the aforementioned standards, allowing you to place your order with confidence. Should you have any requirements, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Applications of Tungsten Heavy Alloys

1. Counterweights and balancing materials
Thanks to its high density and compact size, it is widely used in components requiring precise counterweighting and dynamic balancing. For example, Densimet 176 Bar is used to manufacture counterweights for aircraft engine blades, gyroscope rotors for spacecraft and aircraft, and navigation equipment counterweights to ensure smooth and precise equipment operation.
Balanced weights used in high-end sports cars, precision machinery, oil drilling tools, and even golf clubs deliver maximum mass in an extremely small volume.
2. Radiation shielding and protection
92.5WNiFe alloy absorbs gamma rays and X-rays 30%-40% higher than lead, and is more environmentally friendly and has higher strength. Tungsten nickel alloy rods are commonly used in the manufacture of radiation shielding components (such as collimators and shielding tanks) for medical devices such as CT machines and radiotherapy equipment.
Used for radiation shielding enclosures and nuclear waste transport containers in nuclear reactors.
3. High-end machinery sector
Tungsten heavy alloy rods are used to manufacture precision molds and critical mechanical parts that operate under high temperature, high pressure, and high-wear environments. For example, cores or inserts for die casting molds, injection molds, hot forging molds, as well as fixture positioning blocks, drill pipe stabilizers, and high-pressure valve components.
4. Electronics industry
Used to manufacture electrical contact components with extremely high requirements for conductivity, arc corrosion resistance, and thermal stability. Such as high-voltage circuit breaker contacts, vacuum switch contacts, relay contacts, welding electrodes, semiconductor equipment electrodes, and so on.
5. Military Industry and National Defense
This alloy has extremely high hardness and density, while also providing excellent impact performance. It can be used to manufacture military components such as rivet heads and switch contacts that require high strength and reliability.
Quality Control & Testing

FANMETAL has established a comprehensive quality management system that encompasses every stage-from raw material procurement to finished product delivery. Through authoritative certifications and rigorous testing, we provide our customers with a guarantee of traceable, zero-defect products.
ISO 9001 Quality Management System Certification: This signifies that our entire process-from raw material receipt and production to finished product inspection and after-sales service-adheres to international standards, thereby establishing a standardized and traceable quality management system that ensures the stability and consistency of every product batch.
NDT/Ultrasonic Testing: Every bar undergoes 100% ultrasonic flaw detection to precisely identify internal defects-such as voids, cracks, and inclusions-thereby ensuring the delivery of defect-free material. Testing standards comply with relevant ASTM and ISO specifications, and detailed inspection reports are provided, with data fully traceable to specific production batches.
Material Certification and Composition Verification: Each product batch is accompanied by an EN 10204 3.1 Material Test Certificate (MTC), clearly detailing key parameters such as chemical composition (W/Ni/Fe ratios), mechanical properties (tensile strength, hardness, etc.), and physical properties (density, coefficient of thermal expansion). These data are verified by an authoritative third-party laboratory, ensuring precise and controllable composition.
We also support customized testing services upon request-such as metallographic analysis and microhardness testing-to meet specific client requirements.
FAQ Section
What is the difference between 92.5WNiFe and 92.5WNiCu alloy bars?
Both contain 92.5% tungsten, differing in bonding alloy. 92.5WNiFe features high ductility and slight magnetism, easy for precision machining, widely used for radiation shielding and aerospace counterweights. 92.5WNiCu is non-magnetic with outstanding anti-corrosion property, suitable for marine and chemical downhole applications.
Why choose 92.5WNiFe (Class 2) over 95W (Class3) or 97W (Class4)?
92.5WNiFe is more cost-effective and easier to machine with excellent toughness against vibration and fatigue. Its density meets most regular shielding and balancing demands. 95W/97W are picked only when ultra-high density and minimal-size shielding are required.
Can 92.5WNiFe tungsten alloy rods be welded or joined?
Yes. Silver/copper brazing and diffusion welding are reliable joining solutions. Threading and press fit are common mechanical connections. Conventional arc welding is not recommended as high heat may cause material cracking.
Does 92.5 tungsten nickel iron alloy provide the same radiation protection as lead?
No. 92.5WNiFe has superior shielding capacity; around two-thirds of lead thickness gets equal blocking effect. It is lead-free, high-strength and deformation-resistant, the preferred option for medical and industrial radioactive shielding.
