Overview

Characteristics
Excellent chemical stability
At room temperature, tantalum reacts with oxygen to form a dense protective layer of Ta₂O₅. This oxide layer is extremely chemically inert and can withstand the corrosion of strong acids (such as sulphuric acid and nitric acid), strong alkalis, and various corrosive media.
Good high temperature stability
Tantalum has a melting point of up to 2996°C. It can maintain structural stability in high-temperature electrolysis environments (such as molten salt electrolysis) and will not deform or fail due to oxidation at high temperatures. Most metal electrodes (such as nickel and titanium) are easily worn out at high temperatures.
Excellent electrochemical performance
The oxide film of tantalum has excellent dielectric properties and electrochemical activity. During electrolysis, it can efficiently transfer charges, reduce cell voltage, and improve electrolysis efficiency.
Strong biocompatibility

Application
1. Electronics and Semiconductor Industry
Precision Electrochemical Machining: In semiconductor chip manufacturing, tantalum electrodes are used in electrochemical polishing and etching processes on wafer surfaces, enabling high-precision patterning and preventing contamination of the wafer by metal impurities.
Capacitor Production: During the electrode assembly process for tantalum electrolytic capacitors, custom tantalum fasteners prevent the introduction of impurities while withstanding the mild corrosion of the electrolyte, ensuring component stability.
2. Chemical Industry
In electrolytic cells containing highly corrosive solutions such as sulfuric acid, nitric acid, and hydrofluoric acid, tantalum electrodes must be secured to the cell or bracket using fasteners (such as tantalum bolts, nuts, and washers).
3. High-Temperature Processing
Electrode Fixing in Molten Salt Systems: In high-temperature environments such as molten sodium chloride and fluoride salts, tantalum electrodes must be secured using high-temperature resistant tantalum fasteners (such as tantalum screws and clamps). Process
① Powder purification: Impurities are removed from the tantalum powder through electron beam melting or vacuum sintering.
② Billet preparation: The powder is pressed into a dense billet, which is then vacuum sintered to form a tantalum rod.
③ Processing and forming: The tantalum billet is cut, ground, and threaded at room temperature to ensure dimensional specifications and accuracy.
④ Surface treatment: Electrolytic polishing, sandblasting, or chemical etching are used to remove surface oxide layers and machining marks.
⑤ Heat treatment: The processed electrodes are vacuum annealed (at 800-1200°C) to eliminate machining stress and prevent deformation or cracking during use.
⑥ Quality control: Performance is verified through metallographic analysis (to examine internal structure), dimensional measurement (to ensure tolerances), and corrosion resistance testing (such as immersion in strong acid solutions).
