What is TC4 titanium alloy

TC4 titanium alloy (also known as Ti-6Al-4V) is an alloy with high strength, low density, good corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance. Its main chemical components include titanium (Ti), aluminum (Al) and vanadium (V), of which aluminum and vanadium account for 6% and 4% respectively.
The preparation process mainly includes multiple steps such as smelting, forging, cutting and polishing.
1. Characteristics

  • Low density: The density of TC4 titanium alloy is about 4.5g/cm³, which is much lower than many other high-strength metals such as steel and nickel alloys, which makes it excellent in reducing weight while maintaining structural strength. ‌ High strength: Its tensile strength can reach more than 900MPa, and it has good toughness and can withstand large mechanical stress.
  • Corrosion resistance: It shows excellent corrosion resistance in a variety of corrosive media, and there is a naturally formed oxide film on the surface. Especially in seawater, chlorides and certain acidic environments, which makes it widely used in marine engineering and chemical equipment. ‌
  • ‌High temperature resistance‌: It can still maintain high strength and good mechanical properties at high temperatures, suitable for high temperature environments‌
  • Excellent biocompatibility, non-toxic, elastic modulus close to human bones, and almost no rejection reaction.

2. Application areas

  • ‌Aerospace‌: Mainly used to manufacture aircraft engine blades, turbine discs, fuselage structural parts, combustion chambers and nozzles and other key components, significantly improving the performance and life of aircraft. ‌‌
  • ‌Biomedical‌: Used to manufacture various medical devices and implants, such as artificial joints, dental implants and cardiovascular stents. These implants can withstand the weight and exercise load of the human body for a long time without adversely affecting human tissues. ‌
  • ‌Chemical equipment‌: Its corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance make it an ideal material for handling corrosive media, and can be used to manufacture pipelines, reaction vessels, heat exchangers and other equipment. ‌
