Stainless Roller Bearings
Overview
Stainless Roller Bearings are made from high-carbon, high-chromium martensitic stainless steel 440C, offering high hardness, excellent wear resistance, and corrosion resistance. Suitable for high-temperature, dry, or corrosive environments, they are widely used in demanding applications such as aerospace, medical equipment, and food processing. While their dynamic load capacity is relatively low, they offer excellent dimensional stability and rust resistance, making them a high-performance specialty bearing.
Stainless Steel Characteristics
Excellent corrosion resistance
440C stainless steel contains 16%-18% chromium and a small amount of molybdenum (0.75%), which can form a dense chromium oxide film on the surface of the material, effectively isolating it from corrosion by water, oxygen, and mild chemical media, and is far superior to ordinary high-carbon chromium-bearing steel.
High mechanical strength
The tensile strength (approximately 1900MPa) and yield strength (approximately 1700MPa) of 440C are significantly higher than those of austenitic stainless steel. It has better impact resistance, ensures the operating accuracy of the bearing, and reduces premature failure caused by excessive load.
Good high temperature stability
It can still maintain a certain hardness and mechanical properties at high temperatures, and its continuous use temperature can reach 250°C, avoiding softening of the material or loss of precision due to high temperature.
Excellent wear resistance
The hardness can reach HRC 58-62, which can withstand friction loss under low to medium speed conditions, reduce the wear of the rolling elements and inner and outer rings inside the bearing, and extend the service life.

Application
1. Aerospace and Defense Industry

Process
① Select standard 440C stainless steel round bar and test its composition and metallographic structure (to avoid excessive impurities) to prevent cracking during subsequent processing.
② Hot forge the annealed 440C round bar (heating to 1050-1150°C) to produce the inner and outer ring blanks and the rolling element spherical blanks.
③ Rough and finish turn the forged blanks using a CNC lathe to create the inner bore of the inner ring, the outer diameter of the outer ring, and the spherical surface of the rolling element. Oil holes, sealing grooves, and other structures are also machined.
④ Quench and low-temperature temper the turned rings and rolling elements to stabilize the martensitic structure and improve corrosion resistance.
⑤ Grind the heat-treated components using a high-precision grinder, maintaining micron-level tolerances for the inner and outer diameters, as well as the rolling element diameters.
⑥ Remove residual grinding debris and oil residue using a neutral detergent, then perform a passivation treatment to prevent rust during storage and transportation.
⑦ Assemble in the order of "outer ring → cage → rolling element → inner ring." Install seals and grease, and finally press-fit the dust cover.
⑧ Test the bearing for rotational flexibility, radial clearance, dimensional accuracy, and sealing performance (including water and dust resistance testing). Only qualified bearings can be shipped to customers.
