Beryllium Free X-Ray Windows, as a functional component with metallic beryllium as the core material, can become a "transparent window" for X-ray tubes, spectrometers, synchrotron radiation devices and other equipment due to its unique physical, chemical, and mechanical properties, reducing signal attenuation and improving detection accuracy.

CHARACTERISTICS

Excellent X-ray and high-energy particle transmittance

Beryllium has a low atomic number (Z=4) and a low density (1.85g/cm³). Its absorption coefficient for X-rays, gamma rays and charged particles is much lower than that of traditional materials (such as aluminum and glass).

Balance of high strength and light weight

Beryllium's specific strength (strength/density) is one of the highest among metals, with a tensile strength of 500- 700MPa, close to that of steel, but its density is only 1/5 of that of steel.

Excellent thermophysical properties

High thermal conductivity, can quickly dissipate high heat. Low thermal expansion coefficient (11.6×10⁻⁶/℃), can maintain dimensional stability when the temperature changes drastically, suitable for high temperature or hot and cold cycle scenarios.

APPLICATION

  1. Frequently used in X-ray imaging equipment (such as CT, DR) in the medical and scientific research fields, beryllium's low attenuation characteristics can reduce radiation doses while improving image resolution. For example, in synchrotron radiation light source experiments, Beryllium Free X-Ray Windows, as beamline windows, can maintain a high vacuum environment while ensuring efficient transmission of soft X-rays (energy < 10 keV), supporting material microstructure analysis.
  2. Used as PET-CT detector window material in nuclear medicine and radiotherapy equipment, beryllium has high transmittance to γ ​​rays (energy 100keV-1MeV), is resistant to radiation damage, and is not prone to aging after long-term use.
  3. WORKFLOW

Beryllium Free X-Ray Windows utilizes the low atomic number, high specific stiffness, and excellent thermal conductivity of beryllium to achieve high transmittance, vacuum sealing, and radiation resistance in the process of ray and particle transmission. Especially in the X-ray tube, when the filament is heated to an incandescent state to emit electrons, and after high-voltage acceleration bombards the target to produce X-rays, Be Window has a high transmittance to X-rays due to its low atomic number and extremely thin foil structure, allowing the rays to penetrate the outside of the tube without significant attenuation for imaging or detection; at the same time, its high specific stiffness and precision sealing design can maintain a high vacuum environment in the tube, ensuring the stable operation of the X-ray tube.

PROCESS

① Use high-purity beryllium powder and remove surface oxides.

② Place in a mold for cold isostatic pressing and vacuum furnace sintering.

③ Hot-roll the beryllium ingot, cold-roll it to the target thickness, and eliminate work hardening through intermediate annealing.

④ Process the rolled plate into a round billet and perform high-precision grinding and polishing.

⑤ Use electron beam welding to weld the edge to the metal flange to form a sealed structure.

⑥ Conduct comprehensive quality control and performance testing to meet international standards.
