Product Details ofNichrome Wire

Overview

Nichrome Wire is a high-performance metal wire composed of nickel and chromium in a specific ratio. It exhibits high strength, high resistivity, excellent heat resistance, and good oxidation and corrosion resistance. This material maintains its shape and resists deformation even at high temperatures. Therefore, it is widely used in high-end applications such as industrial furnaces, household appliances, precision electronic components, aerospace, and shipbuilding, serving as a core heating element or resistor. Of course, FANMETAL can also provide customers with tungsten alloys, molybdenum alloys, cobalt alloys, noble metals, and other products, and has been exported to dozens of overseas countries and regions such as Mexico, Switzerland, Iran, Brazil, Singapore, etc.

Nickel Chromium Alloy Characteristics

Excellent high temperature stability

Nickel-chromium alloy can still maintain high strength and hardness in a high-temperature environment (usually up to 1000-1200℃). The wire is not easily softened or deformed due to high temperature and can work stably for a long time.

Strong corrosion resistance

A dense chromium oxide film will form on the surface of the alloy, which can effectively prevent the internal metal from being further oxidized or corroded, greatly extending the service life of the wire in harsh environments (such as high-temperature air and corrosive gases).

Stable electrical advantages

Its high resistivity and gentle temperature change make it an ideal material for heating wires. It generates stable heat when current flows through it, and its output power is minimally affected by temperature fluctuations. It is widely used in household appliances such as electric irons and electric stoves, as well as in industrial heating equipment.

Good ductility and mechanical properties

It has good plasticity, good toughness, and high tensile strength, and can be easily made into filaments of different diameters (from a few microns to millimeters) through the drawing process. The wires after forming have high dimensional accuracy and a smooth surface, which can meet the processing requirements of precision components.

Nichrome Wire Application

1. Industrial Heating Equipment

  • Heating Elements: Used in industrial furnaces for metal heat treatment and ceramic sintering, withstanding temperatures of 1000–1400°C (e.g., Cr20Ni80 models have a maximum operating temperature of 1200°C).
  • Heating Tubes/Heating Rods: Serving as heating cores, they are widely used in plastic molding machines, food processing equipment, and other applications.

2. Electronics and Instrumentation

  • Precision Resistor Components: High-precision alloy wires such as 6J20 and 6J22 are used for current sampling and sensor circuits.
  • Thermocouples: Cr30Ni70 wire is used for high-temperature temperature measurement elements and is resistant to sulfide corrosion.
  • Electronic Packaging Materials: Lead frames and connecting conductors, suitable for the high-temperature packaging environments of microelectronic devices.

3. Household Appliances

  • Electric Ovens and Electric Irons: Alloy wires such as Cr20Ni35 are used as heating wires, providing uniform heating and a maximum temperature resistance of 1100°C.
  • Electric Kettles: Highly efficient electrical-to-thermal conversion and high surface load (e.g., Cr20Ni80 has a higher emissivity than iron-chromium-aluminum).

4. Aerospace:

  • Engine temperature measuring elements: 6J20 wire is high-temperature resistant (1250°C) and is used in turbine engine hot-end components.
  • Satellite conductors: Non-magnetic and radiation-resistant, ensuring electronic signal transmission.

5. New Energy Vehicles:

  • Battery thermal management systems: Precisely control battery temperature (such as 2080 nickel-chromium wire) to improve endurance and safety.
  • Exhaust gas sensors: Cr20Ni30 wire resists sulfide corrosion and monitors exhaust gas composition.

6. Shipbuilding

  • Corrosion-resistant components: Overlay welding can be used to repair ship components and extend their service life.

Other Grade

Cr30Ni70(Ni70Cr30)

  • This grade is the most heat-resistant among nickel-chromium alloys.
  • It forms a dense Cr₂O₃ oxide layer on its surface, offering superior high-temperature oxidation resistance compared to Ni80Cr20.
  • It is suitable for heating elements requiring high power density.

01

Cr15Ni60(Ni60Cr15)

  • It has a long-term operating temperature of 1150°C and is less expensive than Ni80Cr20.
  • It has superior ductility to high-nickel grades and is suitable for winding heating wires with complex shapes.
  • It suitable for magnetism-sensitive environments.

02

Cr20Ni35(Ni35Cr20)Cr20Ni30(Ni30Cr20)

  • It performs better than high-nickel grades in sulfur-containing atmospheres, but its oxidation resistance is slightly inferior to Ni80Cr20.
  • General industrial heating equipment, electric heaters, and laboratory furnaces.

03

6J22,6J23

  • This alloy is a precision resistor.
  • It has a temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) as low as ±20 ppm/°C, making it suitable for precision resistors.

Process

① Ni: 72%-80%, Cr: 19%-23%, with trace amounts of Fe, Si, Mn, and other elements added to optimize performance.

② After vacuum induction melting, the ingot undergoes homogenization annealing to eliminate compositional segregation.

③ The ingot undergoes hot forging and hot rolling in a high-temperature environment, with solution treatment in between to refine the grain size and eliminate internal stresses.

④ Customized dimensional accuracy is achieved through multiple cold drawing passes, followed by vacuum annealing and plasticity recovery.

⑤ Surface treatment: pickling to remove oxide scale and electrolytic polishing to a roughness of Ra ≤ 0.2μm.

⑥ Comprehensive quality control and testing, including composition analysis, mechanical property testing, non-destructive testing, and visual inspection.
