Tungsten heavy alloy (WHA), also known as high-density tungsten alloy, is a high-density material manufactured using powder metallurgy. With its high density, mechanical strength, and excellent radiation shielding capability, tungsten heavy alloy is mainly used for counterweights and radiation shielding components in aerospace, automotive, and metallurgical applications.
Due to tungsten's high melting point of 3422°C, conventional casting processes are not suitable for producing tungsten heavy alloys. Therefore, we manufacture tungsten heavy alloy components using powder metallurgy processes, including powder mixing, compaction, liquid phase sintering, machining, and quality inspection.

Powder Mixing
According to the required composition of tungsten heavy alloy, tungsten powder is uniformly mixed with binder metal powders. Common binder metals include nickel (Ni), iron (Fe), and copper (Cu). By controlling the powder ratios, manufacturers achieve uniform powder distribution to prepare the mixture for compaction and liquid-phase sintering.

The mixed powder is compacted into the required shape through powder metallurgy forming processes. Depending on the final application, tungsten heavy alloy can be produced into different forms, including bars, plates, cubes, and custom components.
Liquid Phase Sintering
Liquid phase sintering is a critical step in tungsten heavy alloy manufacturing. During this process, the binder phase promotes densification and improves the bonding between tungsten particles, forming a dense two-phase structure with the required properties.
Heat Treatment
After sintering, we can apply heat treatment as needed to adjust the mechanical properties of tungsten heavy alloy, including strength, hardness, and toughness.
Machining and Quality Inspection
After sintering and heat treatment, we machine tungsten heavy alloy components according to customer drawings and requirements to achieve the required dimensions and tolerances. Each product is inspected for density, hardness, dimensions, and surface quality before delivery.
