Application
1. Chemical Industry and Metallurgy
- In chemical reactors containing strong acids (such as hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid), strong bases, or high-temperature corrosive media, zirconium wire can be woven into filter screens to filter impurities from corrosive liquids or gases. It can also serve as electrode leads in electrolytic cells, maintaining stable conductivity in the corrosive environment of electrolysis.
- In high-temperature metallurgical smelting processes, it can be processed into high-temperature resistant thin-walled tubing to protect thermocouple sensors from corrosion caused by molten metal or high-temperature furnace gases, ensuring accurate temperature measurement.
2. Aerospace
- In high-temperature environments such as aircraft engine combustion chambers and spacecraft propulsion systems, it can be used as a connecting wire or support wire for small structural components.
3. Nuclear Industry
- Zirconium wire is often used to make support structures, drive filaments, and guide tube assemblies for nuclear reactor fuel rods, ensuring stable alignment of the fuel rods within the reactor, reducing neutron loss, and improving reactor efficiency.

5. Medical Field
- Zirconium has excellent biocompatibility and strength close to that of human bone. Zirconium wire can be processed into fixation wires used in orthopedic surgery or connector wires for dental implants. Zirconium has no rejection reaction with human tissue and can withstand long-term corrosion from body fluids.
- In minimally invasive surgical tools, thin-diameter wires can be used as guide wires or operating wires for endoscopes. They offer both flexibility and rigidity, enabling doctors to precisely manipulate instruments within the body.
Process
① First, the zirconium sponge is vacuum melted and forged to produce a uniform composition, resulting in a zirconium ingot.
② The bar is then rolled into thin rods or wire (e.g., 5-10 mm in diameter) through multiple passes on a two- or four-roll mill.
③ Using carbide dies, the bar is gradually rolled from a larger diameter (e.g., 5 mm in diameter) to the target diameter (e.g., 0.1 mm in diameter).
④ Heat treatment eliminates internal stresses, restores plasticity, and controls grain size to achieve a balance between strength and toughness.
⑤ The surface can be treated with pickling, electrolytic polishing, and coating to ensure a smooth finish and extend service life.
⑥ The wire is straightened and fully inspected to ensure the dimensional accuracy and performance of the finished product.
