Material selection and processing
Powder metallurgy process: uniform mixing of tungsten powder, nickel powder or iron powder - compression molding or hot isostatic pressing - high temperature sintering densification - machining (cutting, turning or grinding) - surface clearing, grinding and polishing - strict quality inspection.
Properties
High Density (core advantage)
The density can reach 16.5~18.7 g/cm³, which is about 4~5 times that of steel and 2 times that of lead. It can play the role of a balancing weight in a limited space.
Long service life
It has high strength and hardness, which is better than many steels. It is also very resistant to wear, fatigue and impact, and has a service life that is better than other materials.
Excellent processing performance
It has better plasticity and toughness than pure tungsten, can be formed through powder metallurgy process, and is flexible in subsequent processing to meet the different customization requirements of customers.
Good physical properties
Good thermal conductivity, suitable for heat dissipation; low thermal expansion coefficient, good thermal matching with semiconductor materials; good corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance.
Application
- Aerospace: Tungsten Nickel Iron Rod is often used to manufacture engine nozzles, turbine blades, gyroscope rotors, guide devices and shock absorbers. It can withstand extreme temperatures and pressures to ensure the reliable operation of aerospace equipment under complex working conditions.
- Petrochemical: It can be used to manufacture drilling equipment counterweights, chemical reactors, pump bodies, valves, pipelines, etc. It can resist the erosion of various chemical media in production, effectively extend the service life of equipment, and reduce maintenance costs.
- Mechanical manufacturing: It is often used to manufacture high-speed cutting tools, molds, boring bars, and automatic watch weights, etc., which can improve processing efficiency and product quality and extend the service life of tools and molds.
- Medical field: It can be used as a shielding material for nuclear medicine. Tungsten has excellent absorption capacity for gamma rays or X-rays. The shielding property of the same volume of tungsten nickel iron alloy is equivalent to 3 times that of lead material.
- Sports equipment: It can be used for golf clubs, bicycles, etc., and the control performance and use experience of the equipment can be improved through reasonable weight distribution.
Comparison with WNiCu
The addition of copper significantly reduces the liquid phase sintering temperature, improves the ductility of the material, and reduces the difficulty of cutting by more than 40% compared with pure tungsten. The nickel-copper matrix forms a passivation film in a humid, weakly acidic environment, and its corrosion resistance is better than that of tungsten-nickel-iron. With its non-magnetic, corrosion-resistant and thermally conductive advantages, tungsten-nickel-copper can be used as a counterweight material for precision instruments and ship equipment, a thermocouple protective cover in a high-temperature impact environment, and important corrosion-resistant components for marine engineering.
