Overview

Tungsten Metal Cube is a high-precision, dense alloy component made from high-purity tungsten powder as the base material, combined with nickel, iron, copper, and other metal binders. It is manufactured through powder metallurgy processes (raw material proportioning, ball milling and mixing, pressing and shaping, degreasing and sintering), precision machining, and surface treatment. It possesses core characteristics such as ultra-high density, high strength, low coefficient of thermal expansion, corrosion resistance, and is environmentally friendly and lead-free. It is widely used in various fields, including nuclear medicine radiation shielding, aerospace precision counterweights, core components of mechanical instruments, the military industry, and racing cars, making it an ideal material for applications with limited space and stringent performance requirements.

1. Aerospace
Aerospace Counterweights: The ailerons and rudders of airplanes, as well as the rotors of helicopters, require precise dynamic balancing. Tungsten cubes are used as counterweights to ensure stable flight. Pure tungsten cubes can also be used in the gyroscope rotors of artificial satellites and missiles, providing a large moment of inertia to improve navigation sensitivity and accuracy.
2. Military Industry
Utilizing their high density and strength, tungsten alloy cubes can be used as counterweights in heavy weapons or as cores for armor-piercing projectiles, providing efficiency and stability.
3. Medical and Nuclear Industries
Tungsten alloys have strong absorption capabilities for X-rays and gamma rays. They are made into small cubes or granules and used to fill collimators and shielding in medical radiation equipment (such as CT scanners and gamma knives), protecting medical personnel and patients' non-irradiated areas.
In nuclear reactors, they can be used as shielding materials or as protective layers for spacecraft nuclear batteries, blocking high-energy particle radiation.
4. Automotive and Sports
Racing Car Counterweights: In high-level racing cars such as Formula 1, engineers use small tungsten cubes to adjust the weight distribution of the car, for example, by installing them on the crankshaft, to optimize engine speed and handling.
Civilian Cars: Used as dynamic balancing weights for car wheels. Compared to traditional lead weights, tungsten alloy blocks are smaller, heavier, and more environmentally friendly, effectively eliminating centrifugal deviations during high-speed tire rotation.
Sports Equipment: In golf club heads, embedding tungsten alloy cubes can lower the center of gravity of the club, increasing hitting stability.
5. Industrial Manufacturing
Can be used as die-casting mold materials or mechanical counterweights to eliminate vibration and improve the fatigue strength and service life of equipment.

PS: Besides cubes, tungsten counterweights can also be used in these applications in the form of rods, plates, spheres, fishing weights, fastener or other irregularly shaped parts.

Processing

The manufacturing process is based on powder metallurgy technology, combined with subsequent precision machining and surface treatment, to ultimately produce high-precision, high-performance finished products. The entire process requires strict control of parameters at each stage to ensure product density, dimensional accuracy, and mechanical properties.

① Tungsten powder (purity ≥99.9%, particle size typically 1-5μm) is mixed with binder phase powders such as nickel, iron, and copper using a ball milling process to produce particles with a uniform size.

② Mold pressing or cold isostatic pressing is used to compact the granulated powder into a mold, applying uniform pressure in all directions to ensure uniform density of the green body.

③ The pressed green body undergoes degreasing and vacuum sintering. At high temperatures, the binder phase melts, filling the gaps and bonding the powder particles, significantly increasing the density of the green body.

④ Precision machining is performed to achieve the dimensional tolerances and surface finish required by the customer. Cooling fluid is used during this process to prevent excessive tool wear.

⑤ Mechanical polishing or chemical polishing is used to improve surface finish; acid pickling enhances corrosion resistance; and plating is applied to meet welding and assembly requirements.

⑥ The final product undergoes multi-dimensional testing, including dimensional tolerance, mechanical property testing, and other specialized tests. Only after passing these tests is the product released from the factory.
