The difference between turning and milling

Mar 01, 2024

1. Different characteristics
Machining is to process the machine as a part to be processed. Rotating workpiece is the main object of turning. Turning is mainly used to process rotating shafts, disks, sleeves and other surfaces. It has been widely used in machinery manufacturing and maintenance enterprises. When the turning blade is working, the cutter teeth successively cut off the workpiece's margin intermittently. The working part is the part that generates and processes chips, including the blade, the structure that breaks or rolls the chips, the space for removing chips or storing chips, the channel of the cutting fluid and other structural elements.
CNC lathes are capable of machining complex rotations. Milling involves fixing the blank to a milling cutter that rotates at high speed so that the desired shape and characteristics can be machined. At present, the commonly used milling methods are simple contour feature milling and groove machining. Milling blades are mainly used for machining planes, steps, grooves, forming surfaces and cutting workpieces on milling machines.
2. Different functions
Turning is a method of cutting tools. Tool machine tools are mainly used to cut workpieces. Milling cutter centers can be used for milling machine tools, molds, checkers, tire tools, complex thin-walled surfaces, artificial prosthetics, three-axis or multi-axis blades. In CNC milling, the selection of machining content should give full play to its advantages and key role.
