Molybdenum alloy history

Oct 11, 2021

In 1910, powder metallurgy technology was used to produce molybdenum products. Prior to 1945, powder metallurgy was the only industrial production method for the manufacture of molybdenum sheets, wires and bars. In the mid-1940s, RParke and J.L.Ham developed a method for producing high-performance molybdenum and molybdenum alloy ingots using a consumable arc smelting process. From the late 1940s to the mid-1960s, in order to meet the needs of atomic energy, aviation and aerospace technology, extensive research was carried out on molybdenum alloys and related processes, and Mo-0.5Ti-0.02C alloy, Mo-0.5Ti-0.1Zr-0.02 was developed. C (TZM) alloy. From the late 1960s to the early 1970s, a higher strength Mo-Hf-C alloy was made. China began to produce molybdenum products from powder metallurgy billets in the late 1950s. Later, powder metallurgy and smelting two kinds of billets are used to produce molybdenum and its alloy bars, wires, plates, foils, pipes and rectangular pipes.
