Overlay welding is a welding process that deposits a layer of metal layer with wear-resistant, corrosion-resistant, and heat-resistant properties on the surface or edge of the workpiece. It is specially used for overlay welding on metal surfaces, and its deposited metal has a certain degree of resistance to different types of wear or corrosion at room temperature and high temperature. Overlay welding has significant economic benefits in increasing the service life of parts, using materials reasonably, improving product performance, and reducing costs. The common problem encountered in overlay welding is cracking. The main methods to prevent cracking are:
1. Preheat before welding, control the temperature between layers, and slowly cool after welding.
2. Perform stress relief heat treatment after welding.
3. Avoid multi-layer overlay welding and use low-hydrogen overlay welding rods.
4. If necessary, overlay a transition layer between the overlay layer and the base material (use an electrode with low carbon equivalent and high toughness).
Notes:
1. Clean the oil rust and impurities on the workpiece before welding.
2. This welding rod should be stored in a dry warehouse. If it is damp, it should be dried at 200℃ before use.
3. If the carbon content of the cladding base material is high, the base material should be preheated to about 400℃-500℃, or a layer of cladding should be done with carbon steel welding rods first, and then cladding should be done while hot, and then slowly cooled after welding. The cladding layer cannot be cut, but can only be ground.
