Product Details ofPure Tungsten Sphere

overview

Pure Tungsten Sphere is a high-density metal sphere that has been precision-polished, typically made from alloys such as tungsten-nickel-ferro-iron or tungsten-nickel-copper. Its surface is as smooth as a mirror, with extremely high density, high hardness, and excellent wear and corrosion resistance. Because it has a weight that far exceeds that of ordinary metals in the same volume, and is non-toxic and environmentally friendly, it is widely used in high-end fields with strict requirements for space and weight, such as fishing gear counterweights, aerospace, precision instrument shock absorption, and medical shielding.

tungsten sphere properties

01.

Ultra-high density

The density is extremely high, typically between 17.0 and 19.3 g/cm³ (about twice that of steel). This means that at the same volume, it weighs far more than ordinary metal, making it ideal for counterweight applications where space and weight are at a premium.

02.

Outstanding wear resistance

It has extremely high hardness and strong resistance to wear and deformation. It can maintain a long service life and dimensional stability even under harsh conditions such as high pressure, high friction, or high impact.

03.

Excellent corrosion resistance

The chemical properties are very stable, resistant to the erosion of most acids and alkalis, and are not easily rusted or subject to chemical reactions. It also shows good radiation resistance.

04.

precision machining

High-precision manufacturing processes (such as powder metallurgy, isostatic pressing, etc.) ensure that the spheres have extremely high dimensional accuracy and consistency, meeting the stringent requirements of precision instruments.

1. Industrial precision machinery field
Precision valves are the central components of high-pressure ball valves and check valves. These precision valves are highly wear-resistant, highly corrosion-resistant, non-deformable, and can withstand extreme working conditions due to their high temperature and pressure rating. The instruments associated with (precision) valve applications include flow meters, pressure gauges, level detectors, precision ball inductance instruments, and balance weight balls. The bearing and transmission devices used in (precision) valve applications include: high-end micro bearings, precision slide tubes/bearings, wear-resistant transmission balls (rather than steel balls), and greatly extend the service life of these devices. Laboratory ball mills and small grinding machines, as well as grinding media balls, can all be used to create high-hardness, wear-resistant grinding media that do not affect the quality of the ground material.
2. Counterweight balance field

The eco-friendly alternative to Lead Sinkers is the Tungsten Sphere in Tackle Weights; it has a smaller size compared to lead sinkers (slower) and is Lead-Free with the same weight per size compared to lead sinkers.

Sports Equipment: Golf Clubs, Billiard Accessories, Precision Weights, and Darts

Aerospace: Model Aircraft, UAVs, Aviation Parts/Components, Balance Weights, Shock Absorbing Weight Balls, High-Density Small Volume Counterweights

Precision Machinery: Vibration Equipment, Automation Equipment, Precision Machine Tool Balance Counter-Weight, Shock Absorption Adjustment Beads
3. Electronics and semiconductor fields
5G communication devices, precise sensors, and optical measuring devices have balance counterweights inside them; these are electronic, precision-style counterweights. Non-magnetic precision accessories are made from a tungsten sphere and are used inside semiconductors, precision electronic cavity seals, and as counterweights without interference from electromagnetic signals.
4. Nuclear medicine and radiation protection
Nuclear medicine shielding: PET/CT, dose shielding counterweights and ray shielding beads in nuclide pharmacies, using tungsten high-density strong shielding X-rays, γ rays, environmentally friendly and non-toxic.
Precision components of medical equipment: radiotherapy equipment collimators, imaging instrument adjustment weight balls, and medical precision valve sealing balls.
Medical micro counterweights: precision counterweights for minimally invasive medical devices and implanted auxiliary accessories.
5. Chemical field
Tungsten Spheres are used in chemical pipeline valves, anti-corrosion fluid switches, marine equipment sealing balls, and long-term use of seawater, aci, and alkali media.

Processing

① Pure tungsten powder/tungsten alloy powder (tungsten-nickel-iron, tungsten-nickel-copper, tungsten carbide formulations) is mixed in proportion, blended, and dried.

② A special spherical mold is used for static pressure pressing to form a rough sphere, giving the initial shape of a ball.

③ High-temperature sintering in a vacuum/hydrogen atmosphere is performed to densify the material and fix its shape, resulting in a rough tungsten ball.

④ The ball is roughly polished on a grinding wheel and disc to remove burrs and adjust its roundness, shaping the irregular surface into a more regular form.

⑤ Multiple precision grinding steps are carried out to control diameter tolerances, roundness, and dimensional accuracy, achieving the level of precision of balls.

⑥ Heat treatment processes such as stress relief annealing, quenching, and tempering are applied to improve hardness and toughness, preventing deformation and cracking later on.

⑦ Ultra-fine grinding paste and polishing machines are used for final polishing to achieve a mirror-like surface finish, giving the ball a bright appearance.

⑧ The balls are inspected for size, roundness, and surface quality; they are then cleaned, rust-proofed, and packaged in vacuum-sealed containers before storage.

FAQ

Q: How to order our products?

A: Customers can first send us an email to tell us their ordering requirements, and we will provide a product catalog. After determining that a certain type of product is needed, we will reconfirm with the customer the order quantity, price, and whether customized product specifications are required.
If necessary, customers can provide drawings directly or put forward their own requirements. We will provide samples here and put them into production after consensus is reached.
The delivery period is then determined based on the quantity or the number of days for custom processing. If the delivery time changes due to some factors, we will inform customers in advance.

Q: What is the difference between Pure Tungsten Spheres and Tungsten Alloy Balls?

A: There are significant differences between the two in terms of material composition, physical properties, and application scenarios:

  • Material and Density: Pure tungsten balls are made from high-purity tungsten metal and have an extremely high density, typically around 19.25 g/cm³. Tungsten alloy balls, on the other hand, contain additional metal elements such as nickel, iron, and copper, which results in a slightly lower density of approximately 18.5 g/cm³.
  • Properties and Uses: Pure tungsten balls are often used in applications that require high precision and stability, such as gyroscopic control systems, flow meters, and medical diagnostic equipment, due to their high density and non-toxic nature. Tungsten alloy balls offer great versatility due to their customizability and are widely used in semiconductor manufacturing processes as well as in other demanding environments that require specific mechanical properties.

Q: Can Tungsten Spheres be customized in terms of size and surface finish?

A: The size range is extremely wide, with capabilities to manufacture products from as small as 0.5mm in diameter to 100mm or even larger. We support customizing the dimensions to meet the specific requirements of our customers.
In terms of surface finishing, various treatment options can be provided based on the actual application needs. For example, to reduce scattering errors or meet specific imaging clarity requirements, we offer options such as matte or mirror polishing. The surface roughness can be controlled to very low levels (such as Ra≤0.1μm).

Q: How much does a 3-inch tungsten sphere weigh?

A: A high-purity tungsten ball with a diameter of 3 inches (about 76.2 mm) weighs approximately 7.67 kg (16.91 lbs).

  • Special Note: Many commercially available "tungsten balls" are actually tungsten alloys (such as W-Ni-Fe), with densities typically ranging from 17.5-18.5 g/cm3, so the actual finished product weight may be slightly less than pure tungsten, around 4.1 to 4.3 kg.

Q: What are your terms of payment?

A: Payment<=1000 USD, 100% in advance. Payment>=1000 USD, 30% T/T in advance, balance before shipment. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us as below.
