Cobalt Chrome Alloy 6 is the most commonly used grade of cobalt-based alloys and is often made into various castings such as rods, blades, balls and valve seats. The cemented carbide phases (carbon and tungsten) in the matrix give the alloy a high resistance to corrosion and wear. Overlay welding is a metalworking process in which a harder material is applied to vulnerable surfaces to mitigate or repair such damage. Cobalt Chrome Alloy 6 Hardfacing has excellent corrosion resistance, thermal fatigue resistance and oxidation resistance in the temperature range below 800 degrees, and its surfacing layer can be processed by welding, plasma spraying, high-velocity oxygen spraying or laser.
